Biography

"Heer Jan die Gruyter" is the organist continuously paid by the confraternity of Our Lady in 'sHertogenbosch from 1508 to 1525 (Smijers 1935, p. 68-105). He is then replaced by "Magister Joannes Duynkerken" (Smijers 1940). He can't in anyway be confused with the singer of the papal chapel Jan Gruter* who died in 1509.
